Ó

When i bought my PS3, i was really thrilled about the fact that i bought the 60gig version but that excitement was short lived after i read up the instruction manual which mentioned that the PS3 Hard Drive can be SWAPPED!
As anybody would normally, i called up sony to confirm on the fact that swapping the HDD with another one wont mess up the XMB and after about staying on the phone and talking for about 40 mins (i loved the gal!), i found out that it really is possible!!

Still wondering what this means? Bang your head in the wall if you still dont get it! It means that you can replace the original 60GB/20GB HDD with one of your own HDD's!! And to add to the excitement, you can also add an external HDD to the PS3 via the USB port!

With that in mind, i set down to rip open the PS3(sounds techy!) and took out the HDD. The fact is that swapping the HDD is authorized by $ony and that does'nt void your warranty so i had nothing to worry about!
I replaced the 60GB HDD with my 250GB 2.5" Sata HDD and went to system on the PS3 XMB and choose the HDD which automatically formatted the HDD for use! NOW!, i have a 250GB version of the PS3 to which if i want i can add another HDD and even make it 1TB (1 Terabyte = 1024GB) !!

Thank you $ony for authorizing this hack and also there is one more news that i want to share with you guys which will be revealed sooner or later.. the PS3 can run OS's other than the PS3 OS and PS3 Linux.. there are reports of a PS3 being able to run Mac OS..this hack i have NOT personally tried and i dont wanna try it now since my PS3 is still shiny!
Who did i confirm this from you ask? Well, i asked this from the master ($ony) itself!

So there ya go! All i know is that in the time to, we will see a LOT of hacks for the PS3 thanks to it open OS and expandability options..

Be sure to try the HDD hack yourself!

i'm not flaming you, i'm just going to say that this isn't a hack, most of this information can be found on http://ps3.qj.net and the only surprising thing there is the mac OS part, but I believe that may be an emulator running on linux, like the win xp on linux on ps3 one.

I don't know where you came from, how old are you, which forums you read, but these were discovered way before the PS3's launch.. (and after the launch they already modded the ***** out of it.. )
so, I'm happy that you're happy mr h4x0r..

I was just thinking about this a few minutes ago. Its not a hack but I was wondering if I could plop in a custom HDD filled with music and videos that way I could remote play them with my PSP was curious to how people got all that ***** on their PS3s. I thought it might of been FTP or through a USB device. Cool beans though. XBOX 360 needs to step up and allow DIVX/XVID to be playable from a USB connected device. IMHO that would trump the PS3 to me...

LOL. Was xMOD paid for this or is it just another effect of PS3 fanboism? ;-)
