Ó

Is that it then from Sony on the PSP? It seems to be since the fact that we are hardly seeing any future firmware updates and the fact that they are doing nothing to stop homebrew.

So what was the last update? I think it was 3.95, many of us are waiting for the big number 4.0 but when will it be released....after a long time. Then there is the features in the updates, when was the last time we saw a good worthwile feature. It was Skype and that was only available to PSP Slim users, although homebrew developer Fanjita has been working on something called Furikup which seems to be showing no sign of future updates. EDIT: Forgot to mention that Custom Firmware, what do you think Dark_Alex should do, in my opinion he should start developing his own firmware based off Sony's firmware. But then again you would get people complaining that it will never come out and it has many bugs etc.

What is Sony doing to stop homebrew on PSP, not much. As newer PSP models come out they have newer revised motherboards to stop the making of Pandora batteries and such but that is the only thing which they are doing to stop homebrew. I am not being anti-homebrew here but the fact that Custom Firmware is sooo much better and has much more benefits, many reasons why people buy PSP's are for homebrew and the flexibility of it.

Well, that's the end of my first May article.

 1.  » I hope its not the end

I really wish Sony would communicate with its user base a little more.. i mean throw us a bone every now and then... tell us what the next update will contain, say something.. give us release dates.. even if you have to delay it, give us something we can see. I have been thoroughly frustrated with the PSP GPS launch date... i mean the GPS was announced way back in 2006, and Japan and Europe both enjoy this nifty device.. I'm sure not everyone in the US may be interested in the GPS, but if you have the hardware why not release it? The PSP has the power to be a very versatile device. Now what can they possibly add in 4.0? here were some things that i'm wishing for:
Internet Video Streaming (youtube, google video, etc)
Built in Calendar (like a date book, contact lists, reminders, etc)
Snapshot
PSP Messenger - see what friends are online and what games they are playing
Internet Radio - Add own stations, create favorites
Full Web Browser

Now the features i mentioned are availabe via homebrew, but what else could they possibly do? I dont see them including anything radical that will have us jumping for joy in 4.0? Well, hopefully Sony wows us, because they owe it to us ; )

 2.  » I doubt it

Hi,
I see what you mean but as you can see the PSP has less built-in flash memory than the Slim, that's why there is no Skype. Nice suggestions though, doubt they will listen

 3.  » What about Memsticks?

Hey,
Thanks for the reply! I understand there is a limitation with the RAM, but that hasnt stopped them from enhancing the psp's functionality... Take for example the Internet Radio, you download the apps straight to your mem stick and requires minimal ram if any... you run the apps striaght from the mem stick.. ... and also lets take PSPTube as a great example... it caches everything on the memstick, I'm sure if they really wanted to they could have made a work around.. there are some things like the TV-Out function that just require the upgraded hardware, but for the most part... they can do it i believe.. again im no expert, so i may be wrong, but its just frustrating :)

 4.  » Yes but a problem

Thanks for your reply too! If they used memory sticks then people would start modifying it etc and that way the PSP will have numerous updates. Also memory stick isnt as fast but a fair point
