You might have noticed in our Tokyo Game Show coverage some mention of new PSP colors that were on display at the show (or maybe you didn't notice... there were quite a few stories on IGN over the course of the event). A week after the show, and the latest issue of Famitsu has managed to clear up one issue: the new colors will be seeing retail release.

Sony representatives commented to the magazine that the silver and pink colored PSP units will be released to Japan in the near future. Specifics were not provided, although it's worth noting that with the PS2, Sony often released limited edition colors to coincide with the year-end sales season.

The Sony booth also had yellow, blue, red and army colored units on display, but these sales plans for these weren't mentioned in the Famitsu report.

In addition to the new colors, Sony's booth had PSP software on display using PSP units with custom shells designed to match the game. Sadly, it seems that these were prepared exclusively for the show and won't be released at retail.
