Okay, I'm not saying the I'm a Sony fanboy. I respect all other consoles, but I'm here to explain why it is what it is.

If you look at the Sony PS3, and all it can do. You can only say one word... wow. The Ps3's power resides within the eight processors and the RSX graphics. The PS3 can function as a fully functional computer if you tinker with it for a little while. I was playing my PS3 on my HDTV at home one day and my girlfriend walked into the room and asked "what movie am I watching?", when in fact I was playing MotorStorm. It's that realistic. I've upgraded my HDD to 250GiB so I've got all my movies, songs, & photos. A built-in web browser? what more can you ask for.

Yes, the network of PS3 users isn't very powerful and yes it is a little over priced. When you look at the long-run, you're making a great investment! Right now you buy a PS3 at $599.99 USD you buy a Xbox 360 Elite at 499.99, then you go ahead and buy a HD-DVD player, which still isn't as-powerful as Blu-Ray and you've jumped over the PS3. Not counting the price of Xbox Live. Which for a year is 59.99. So, 60 dollars a year, over let say you play it four years, that $240.00! The PSNetwork is completely free, of course you buy your special game of PSP games from time to time which at most costs 10 dollars.

Then we move onto the Wii, yes, the Wii is a great console for a family. I do give it props, but when you look at it's functionality, it's a joke. No memory card, no HDD, no wireless built-in. By the time you buy all the special attachments for it, you've gotten up to the price of a PS3. To all the people that say that it's not a fad, and is the best, sorry to break you heart but... why would I stand on my living room and use my Wiimote for tennis and be jumping all over the place when I can go down to my local Play-It-Again Sport's and pick up a tennis racket and a couple of balls, and play with my friends. Video games are meant to be played from the comfort of your couch.

Overall the PlayStation 3 is a clear winner in the end.

 1.  » the real joke

imo, ps3 is real joke. for me, buying a console meant spending money on a machine that i can make fun of it, but not a high performance computer. in this aspect, xbox and wii have much more potential (their games and concept), sony seems forgot they are doing a console but not a computer...

Don't talk absolute piffle..

The X360 is extremely limited, what happens when games begin to exceed the size of a DL-DVD (8.5GB).. M$ have already stated that they won't be using the HD-DVD add-on drive for games, and it will only be used for films.

I'm not saying that the X360 is a bad machine, it's very good.. but there WILL come a time when M$ will have to rethink their direction and follow progress.. which means that the older X360 units will become null.. there's already talks that the CORE system will be phased out..

You will (cos there's no doubt about it) need to buy a games unit that will require high performance.. and unfortunately the X360 does support that future proofing.

PS3 is way ahead of its time.

First of all, the PS3 does not have 8 processors.

It has one. The cell.
The cell CPU has one multi-purpose PPE core, and then 7 SPE core's, which are independent of each other, but are only suited to some tasks, and anything that goes to them, has to go through the PPE first.

As for graphics, currently, the PS3 and X360 are about the same, and while I think the PS3 probably has the potential to have better graphics than the 360, it will take time, and possibly only happen a year or so before the end of its life cycle.

Bluray? Don't have a HDTV, so have no use for it. The good thing about the 360, is that you have choice. I don't need wifi, so I haven't had to spend the extra to have it. I don't need a High def disc player, so haven't need to pay for one etc. Yes, if you want everything they come out at a similar price, but if you don't want everything, the 360 becomes a better buy.

With Live, I would rather have something that I have to pay for but is good, than something that Is free, but isn't very good. Yes, the PSN will get better in the future, but IMO, with Home, sony are going in the wrong direction. Hardcore gamers (which no doubt at its current price the PS3 is aimed at), will want to spend more time playing games rather than being in a second life clone.

@ Fully agree, all MS have to do if a game is bigger than 8.5Gb is put it on multiple discs. No-one had any problems with that back when we used CD's, so I at least would have no problem with it now. I do agree it would have been a better idea for MS to integrate a HD-DVD drive into the console, however, that would have meant delaying its launch, something which MS didn't want to do (as they thought the PS3 was going to launch on time in March 2006)

 4.  » more Discs just won't cut it..

Yeah you are right the larger the game gets, then M$ can span it over more disks, but that will only be good for games that have longer playing time or larger worlds..

When games have more information going on, on the screen and require more space to store data that needs to be accesses quickly..

If it was a case that you could span it across multiple disks, then Resistance FoM and MGS4 would've been release on the X360 aswell.. but as they are restricted by the DL-DVD space then it just won't fit.. and the more intense the games graphics the more the X360 will require larger storage

@ PS3 is showing the way

Resistance isn't on 360 because its published by Sony, and developed by a studio which have only ever made games for sony platforms.

As for MGS4, there's still rumours that it will go to 360. And remember, MGS2 (or was it 1) was spanned over more than 1 disc, so disc space wouldn't be an issue for MGS4 on the 360. The only barrier atm, is that sony are probably paying konami a fair bit to keep the game a PS3 exclusive.

by WelshBluebird (Unregistered), at May 22, 2007 at 10:45AM

 6.  » @WelshBluebird

Actually Resistance was designed and created well before the PS3 was released.. the kept their options open as it was way to large to fit on a DVD due to the amount of information that is going on, on the screen at one point .. then the PS3 was being released using HD media, so they approached Sony.

MGS4 was/is built on PS3 Hardware and architecture, and won't fit on a DVD. But Kojima stated that this was the intention from the get go, for release on the X360 they would have redo the game and probably have to reduce the game down to work properly. No If's No But's No hypertheticals.

the console wars were always won by nintendo (psp sales still hasn't come close to ds sales, same thing for ps3 and wii) but does it really matter who wins. There just isn't a "better" console. it depends on the person's own taste. making artickels like this one makes you rather pathetic.

 15.  » Wii

Wat r u talkin bout?! The Wii does have wifi and it does support emory cards such as SD and the gamecube memory cards. 2.5" HDD also work on it. When it comes to consoles, at the end of the day, its the games that count. Most people prefer the fun of the game over the quality of it. Nintendo is makin their games fun and innovative which is increasin the sales of both its consoles and games. Have u even ever try the Wii?! If u have frineds, not sayin u dont, its the best bet as a console out of all 3 next gen. Wii Sports is a great multiplayer game. Just wait till Super Smash Bros. Brawl comes out. Then it'll be even better. The virtual console is a pretty nice addition for those of us who like retro games, even though they r a little over priced. Then theres also DS to Wii connection comin soon, which will undoubtedly enhance the fun. The PS3 games just aren't as fun. How many ppl now don't have a copy of Diamond or Pearl or at least a DS or GBA?! Nintendo products r fun, innovative, and economically friendly.

The real point is, at this point in time the PS3 is under performing: an that’s a reality, love it or hate, but that’s fact. Both the Wii, 360 and even the PS2 is performing better. So why are all these children keep trying to justify their purchases of the PS3?

Posts like this PS3 article does PS3 no good - the PS3 can stand on its own if its any good, market forces will dictate sales. Why do you think the Wii, 360 and the PS2 are selling better? Because consumers don't care about the ' future benefits', 'future WOW games', future features' etc... What consumers trend are saying right now is; 'what can I get from a console today, right now - not tomorrow'. The PS2, Wii and the 360 delivers, consumers can see the tangible value.

The PS3's argument is all about 'tomorrow' and never about what’s 'right now' - why do you think Sony released their so called 10 year plan?

The real question here is, how can 12 years olds get there hands on the kind of cash to shell out on a PS3??

you all stand up for your system too much. respect the PS3 a least a little for those of you that are hating. all three counsols are great systems. but im positive the ps3 will be the best in the future. cuz it will take a very long time until the next generation of any system comes out. the PS3 isnt just a "PC", it's also capable of doing more things than the 360 and the wii. PS3 does cost a lot of money but U GET WHAT U PAY FOR.

"when you look at it's functionality, it's a joke. No memory card, no HDD, no wireless built-in. By the time you buy all the special attachments for it, you've gotten up to the price of a PS3."

The Wii's functionality is no joke, it's the next generation dumb ass. It's such revolutionary technology packed into a 3 DVD case sized console. It even supports GC playback, controllers and memory cards as well

It does too have memory cards, it's called an SD card. Why in the f'ing world would someone want to buy a whole new memory disk storage device only useable via that console. Why not have it be an SD card, supporting huge amounts of memory, and still can be used for computer removable disk storage.

No HDD? Why would you need one? The SD card has plenty of room for what youll be using it for (movies and gamesaves, music and photos aren't for a game console, an ipod is)

No wireless? What the fck are you smoking? This main point proves the validity of your debate reasons to all be wrong. The Wii supports Wifi, built in and wired connection dumbass, learn your ***** before you start talking about it.

All the special attachtments? Last time I checked, a Virtual Controller doesn't cost $350 dumbass. Once you get to the point in elementary school when you can subtract $250 from $600 and compare the cost of all these special attachtments (a virtual controller is all thats out), come back and speak with the big kids. kthxgodienow

 23.  » Lol this is such a bad blog

Half the things in this blog are wrong, so Ill just go over a few.

"If you look at the Sony PS3, and all it can do. You can only say one word... wow. The Ps3's power resides within the eight processors and the RSX graphics. "
`
`
`
`
` The Wii also has a built in web browse which is easier to nacvigate due to the mouse-like precision of the Wiimote. One day I had my sisiter come in from New Jersey with her husband and her daughter and they played my Wii. The 5 year old daughter was whupping ass and got the hang of it fast. My sister was impressed with the weather channel, news channel, internet browser, virtual console (she plyed super mariolike crazy) and especially with the originality and simplicity of the Wiimote. All she could say was "omg I am going to buy one." Two weeks later, when she went back home, after looking for a Wii for about a week she bought one. Wow. That is how impacting the Wii is. here husband is a Sony fan, only buys sony things, yet never wanted a PS3 because he said it's over priced and too much like a pc wannabe. This is an example of why the PS3 is not appealing to someone who has a good computer and knows a=how to spend their moeny wisely.
moving on, the 360's power resides in its 3 core 3.2Ghz cpus. If you look at the 360 and Ps3 comparisons there is barley a difference, and many of the comparisons make the 360 look better. Even when the Ps3 looks better, who cares? If you buy a 360 you save like 200-300 dollars and still get HD and good graphics. V

It's funny how you said the network of the PS3 is a little over priced even though its free... But the point is, the 360 has a silver lvl subscription that is totally free, the gold is the one you pay for. Most people are not buying a 360 elite, because that is only if you are desperate for more hdd and hdmi. HD DVD is just as powerful, if not more, than Blu ray. currently 3 layer HD DVDs are 51 GB and many users have personally reported than it looks more refined and has better quality sound than blu ray. Both HD DVD use a blue optical laser that has a smaller wavelenght thus allowing for space, so knwing that one must agree that they are basically the same technology. Xbox live (which can also be free) is much more sophisticated than the PSnetwork. It is why the 360 is selling. I son't own a 360, but I can tell you that the Xbox live service is 10 times better than PSnetwork in what you can download, too.

 24.  » ooops there's more

The Wii is a great console, end of story, I don't think it's a fad, it is really promising. The Wii accepts GC memory cards, SD cards, and has a built in 512MB flash. The HDD isn''t a problem because Nitendo will probably release a new HDD, or update the Wii to install drivers that allow for an external computer HDD. I calculated buying the Wii and PS3 3 extra controllers. For the Wii you go up to 450. For the PS3 you go up to 800. That is still a very large difference. Let's say you want to buy 2 Wii games and a classic controller( not necessary if u have gc contoler), you go up to about 580. If you want to buy 2 PS3 games you go up to about 920$ (i include tax). you get you money's worth with a Wii also for all the things it can do. It comes with built in 802.11b/g (wifi ) and blue tooth for the WIRELESS wiimotes. Soon there will be a ds-Wii connectivity feature like the PS3-psp thing. So far about 8million Wii's have been sold while about 3.5million PS3's have been sold. To address to Wii specs, most don't realize it but if you research Wii tech specs you may get 729 Mhz because of something a Nintendo exec said, but that may not be its limit. I remember at one time it said the Wii was up to 3.1 Ghz for its cpu. A nintendo exec said that the Wii CURRENTLY runs at 729 Mhz, but Nintendo never confirmed many details about the Wii's graphics. When nintendo posts the graphics on their web page then you can say what you must. To addres your point about standing in a living room... let me put it this way, why would you pkay GTA4 when you can go out and kill people and kill cops and steal planes cars and boats? Why would you play a game simulating real life? Beacxuas that's what games are for! Games are to have fun, and simulate real life. You don't have to stand up with most Wii games. I play most Wii games either sitting on my bed or laying down. TO compare to controllers, the Wii mote is many times more adavanced than the sixaxis. For one it vibrates, lol. It senses 3 dimensional motion and can be used as a mouse-like pointing device, and has 2 motion sensors when you include the nunchuck as opposed to a non-vibrating control that you an only tilit. So with the Wii you can be punching someone in the face or mimiking a salute, etc. With the PS3 you can play monkey ball because it senses tilt. Woo hOO! TilT! The Wii senses tilt plus 3d motion plus pointing! So as for technology, the Ps3 is onyl technologically superior in graphics, not in gameplay. Besides, the Ps3 is currently the worst selling console of the three. Even the PS2 sells better. I don't see your point about how the PS3 wil eventually win. Who wins? We do. The consumers win. Not consoles. By the time the PS3 gets decent customers there will be a Wii 2 and XBox 720 and PS4. SO forget what you said about the PS3. I doubt it will make the comeback you dream of. In the end, the consumers are the clear winner. Not the consoles.

by , at Jun 18, 2007 at 10:14AM

 25.  » Problems with your logic

Your logic has a gaping hole in it: none of the things you mentioned have changed since the systems launched, and yet the PS3 is far behind. If the things you mentioned were enough to propel the PS3 to the front, it would already be there.

As for your description of Wii, it's all wrong: it DOES have built-in WiFi, it uses SD cards as memory cards, and it has more than enough flash memory to hold the amount of VC games the average Wii owner will buy. Furthermore, there are certainly not 350 dollars worth of attachments available or necessary for Wii. You might have said that Wii doesn't support HD graphics, to which I would respond that people buying Wii already know that and don't care.
