Ó

Well it seems the hard worker Dark_Alex is, he's released some information on 2.71 SE Revision C! And its coming next week if all goes as planned! Also planned for the next week release is Hen Revision D! Here are some details on 2.71 SE Revision C.

Things already planned and/or included in 2.71 SE Revision C:

  • You can choose the speed at which the PSP runs in. [aka 333 MHz, or 29 MHz]
  • The selection of plug-ins from the memory stick. [Seems like loading PRX files from your memory stick!]
  • Removing certain securities from the 2.71, thus allowing to better create homebrew for the 2.71 kernel. There also is a possible emergence of a 2.71 IrShell!
  • You can now load your legally backed up ISOs from USB! No more devhook for that! [Loaded by a plugin on the memory stick.]
Things not included in this revision:
  • DAX support not included. [It takes too much kernel memory.]
Fixes:
  • A fix regarding the Plain Module loading in ISOs and CSOs, which caused a problem in Socom 2.
Dark_Alex is also looking to take a break until 3.00 firmware is released. [Sucks huh Dark_Alex!? 3.00 Firmware was released.] pablogp also asked a question about looking at the source of PSX-P, but Dark_Alex said he was taking a break after 2.71 SE.

Dark_Alex has done it again. When he launched the dawn of customized firmware for 1.5, people were amazed. They gasped. They cried and laughed and loved it. With custom .prx loading after init.prx, the customizating of autobooting a scrumptious [:P] homebrew, and recovery support to save bricks, the PSP WAS THE MAN! Then, when 2.71 Special Edition Revision A was released, again, people rejoiced! Now, as 2.71 Special Edition Revision B is about to come out, we are waiting patiently as a bombardment of awesome updates are TO come! :D Here are some already done and implemented features:

  • Built-in .iso and .cso support. [.dax to come in 2.71 Special Edition Revision C or later.]
    • The .iso and .cso placed in ms0:/ISO/ folder and displays in the game menu!
      • UMD needed in the drive in order to play the .iso or .cso. [Planned to not be needed in future revisions]
  • Ability to set ms0:/PSP/GAME/ as the folder for 1.50 Kernel homebrews and ms0:/PSP/GAME271/ for 2.71 homebrew. [Optional]
  • Ability to run an EBOOT at start-up! [Meaning autobooting!]
  • Some problematic ISOs fixed.
  • Ability to force the use of boot.bin in UMDs.
  • Ability to enable or disable the noplainmodulecheck patch in UMDs and ISOs. [Advanced users]
  • And, of course, all the wonderful features from 2.71 Special Edition Revision A!
I personally cannot wait for this, so drool over the awesome new features! :O Thank you Mathieulh for the information!

Yes, you are reading correctly, Dark_Alex has once again struck Sony with a fist of fury, and has set them back a few steps because Ridge Racer 2 Demo now works on 2.71!! This is taken straight from the Maxconsole article:

Method to run the pbp demo of ridge racer 2 for "2.81" in firmware 2.71 with hen C, in 2.71 SE or in devhook emulating 2.71 (i haven't tested the last one but it should work).

  • Download decrypter test from http://www.dark-alex.org
  • With some pbp utility, such as pbp unpacker, extract the files from the pbp. Put the extracted file DATA.PSP in the root of memory stick.
  • Run the decrypter test with 1.50 kernel if you are in or in devhook emulating 1.50 if you are in HEN.
The decrypter test will output a file called "DATA_OUT.PSP in the root of memory stick. Using this file as the data.psp, rebuild the pbp. Change the text "2.81" with some hexadecimal editor to something <= 2.71

Ready. No you can play it. (of course if you are in 2.71, you only can execute it while hen is in memory).

This method doesn't work with other demos like world tour soccer, because, despite they decrypt, they may have some kind of protection and they crash. (not even locoroco decrypted runs).

Now this is exciting news!!! Have fun playing Riiiiiiiidge Raaaaaaacer! :P

Yes, I am not crazy, this is yet another release from Xandu. It's great to have more people on the PSP coding scene! Now, on to the good stuff: this is a calculator for the PSP. It was unfortunately released separately from his L:UA suite, but nevertheless its one cool application! A direct note from the author: "It's a bit slow, but will be improved in the next versions." Now that is great! Here are some breathtaking pictures of this application:

Make sure you try out the developer, and provide feedback in the way of suggestions, bugs, and comments!

Now, I recently came across pochi's website, and may I say, I am impressed. The amount of content readily available to download is VAST. The amounts of resources for eboots, using various styles, can make a PSP shine in its beautiful glory. Nothing can make a PSP look better than pochi artwork. There are 1.5-ready backgrounds to be flashed to the PSP. Wallpapers for the PSP, even the PC, its simply beautiful. Here are some examples of his work:

As you just saw, pochi has a lot of unique and great designs, so stop by and enjoy his graphics! :D [His website is not recommended for dial-up users.]
